Focus On... Mindful Eating During the Holidays

It’s the most wonderful time of the year — for gaining a few extra pounds around the holidays.

Studies have shown that people gain on average five to seven pounds during the holiday season. And that’s just during the few weeks from Thanksgiving to New Years!

It’s easy to ignore the voice in your head telling you you’re over-indulging when your celebrating.

Here are 10 small steps that you can take to reduce packing on those holiday pounds:

  1. Keep a food log
  2. Weigh yourself daily
  3. Exercise in the morning before breakfast
  4. Fill-up on protein
  5. Eat smaller meals throughout the day to avoid binge eating
  6. Use smaller plates
  7. Wait 20 minutes before taking seconds
  8. Drink water throughout the day
  9. Sneak in those veggies
  10. Freeze leftovers so you are not tempted to eat them all at once
