Focus On... National Heart Month

Did you know heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States? Every year, 1 in 4 deaths are caused by heart disease. Heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and manage their health conditions. February is National Heart Month and a great chance to raise awareness about preventing heart disease.

Some ways you can observe National Heart Month are to:

  1. Monitor your blood pressure
  2. Eat foods low in trans-fat, saturated fat, added sugars and sodium
  3. Be active for 30 minutes a day, every day
  4. Find ways to manage stress, sleep better, and — if you smoke — quit

Incorporating the tips above into your daily life are great ways to keep your heart healthy. This month, focus on spreading the word about heart disease and take the above steps to help live a heart-healthy life.
