According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) about 60 million adults, or 30 percent of the adult population, are now obese. While obesity is becoming an epidemic in the United States it is highly treatable and easily managed.

WebMD defines obesity as an excess proportion of total body fat. The most common tool used to determine whether a patient is obese is the BMI calculator, and a patient is considered obese if their BMI is over 30. Research from the Mayo Clinic warns that obesity can contribute to the development of serious health problems such as high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, and osteoarthritis.
