According to WebMD, 80 percent of Americans will experience a form of back pain at some point in their lives. Back pain can be either acute (coming on suddenly and lasting from a few days to a few weeks), or chronic (lasting for more than three months), and range from a dull constant ache to a sudden, sharp pain, as stated by the National Institutes of Health.

For those who suffer from back pain the Mayo Clinic has good news, affirming that most back pain episodes may be taken care of or prevented with simple home treatment and proper body mechanics.
